Kulpin: Discover History, Festivals, and Slovak Cuisine
Kulpin - A Village of Interesting History and Great Tourist Potential
Did you know that Dunđerski, Laza Kostić, Slovak kulen, and the associated festivals are all connected by a small place in the heart of Vojvodina? Kulpin, a village with an intriguing history and not only good food but also great entertainment, is a destination you shouldn’t miss this summer. Its proximity to numerous tourist attractions makes it an essential stop.
History and Culture
The village’s origins are linked to the Stratimirović family, who received 10,000 acres of land from Maria Theresa (or rather, the authorities of that time). On this vast area, around 200 Serbian families were brought from the Herzegovina region, and together they established a place that would later be known for its many unique features. During their lifetime, the Stratimirović family built two magnificent mansions, one of which eventually belonged to the famous brewer Lazar Dunđerski and was named Dunđerski Castle. The village is also known for the love story between Laza Kostić and Lenka Dunđerski, making it a popular spot for couples. Near the castle, you will find both an Evangelical and an Orthodox church, which are the legacy of the Stratimirović family.
Agricultural Museum in Kulpin
Located within the Dunđerski Castle complex, it is the only agricultural museum not only in Serbia but also in the former Yugoslavia. Numerous machines and tools testify to the development of agriculture and the life of the average peasant in these areas. The museum will briefly transport you back to a time when land was worked manually, livestock was milked, and peasants were highly respected and valued.
Festivals
Kulpin boasts a variety of festivals and events that cater to all tastes. One of the most famous is Kulpin Fest, the largest small festival in Vojvodina. Every first week of July, for two days, you have the chance to attend a rock music festival with an entrance fee of 1500 dinars.
Easter in Kulpin - a place where local wine and Slovak kulen come together. During Catholic Easter, you can taste some of the highest quality wines from the region and the renowned Slovak specialty. Easter traditions from these parts will also be showcased.
During the Kulpin Wedding Then and Now festival, you will have the chance to see old, traditional, and modern wedding customs of Serbs, Slovaks, Hungarians, and Rusyns. In addition to a fashion show of wedding attire and a contest for the most beautiful bride, guests will enjoy a display of wedding cakes, wine tasting, and popular wedding dishes such as sarma, cabbage rolls, and strudel. This event takes place in the summer.
Gastronomy
We can’t talk about Kulpin without mentioning the masterpiece of Slovak cuisine - the famous Slovak kulen. What sets it apart from other Vojvodina kulens is its distinct spiciness and heat, which only the bravest can handle. For an even more complete experience, we recommend wine tasting, which you can enjoy during the aforementioned Easter in Kulpin festival.

Kulpin does not have accommodation facilities, but the nearest ones are located in Bački Petrovac, just 5 kilometers away.
