Bač: History, Nature & Flavors in Vojvodina's Heart
Bač
Bačka Fortress is one of the main reasons why tourists visit this interesting place, as it truly allows you to experience the spirit of old times.
Located about an hour's drive from the Special Nature Reserve of Gornje Podunavlje, a protected natural asset of Category I, Bač offers the chance to stay either here or at one of the many nearby farms. You will have the opportunity to explore the channels and meanders of floodplain forests, rare species, enjoy a boat ride on the Danube, and be in the company of the last Danube fishermen.
You might have a bit of trouble pronouncing Turoš čusa, flute, Ćušpajz, šmarne, cicvara, but you will remember Bač precisely for all these flavors of local specialties.

What to Visit in Bač
Bačka Fortress
Don't miss the fantastic view from the top of the Bačka Tower, especially if you visit in the afternoon when the sun sets over the Vojvodina fields. It is the best-preserved medieval fortress and one of the most significant in Vojvodina.
Franciscan Monastery
In the very center of Bač, you'll find the Franciscan Monastery with its courtyard and the Church of the Assumption of Mary. It was established nearly 900 years ago during the Crusades as a stopover for those traveling to Jerusalem. During the Ottoman period, it was converted into a mosque, but from the Austro-Hungarian era until today, it has been a monastery for over 300 years. Its rich archive, library with books from the 15th to the 20th century, old artifacts, ecclesiastical vestments, and numerous other testimonies reflect a continuity that dates back to the time of the Holy Roman Empire. The monastery also houses one of the oldest organs in Vojvodina.
Šiljak Tower
The City Gate - Šiljak Tower, which retains one floor and is connected to a modern bridge, also reflects the encounter of the old and new that Bač presents in all aspects.
Didina Ethno House
In the very center of the town, yet in a peaceful location, the famous ethno house with the charming name "Didina kuća" has been around for 100 years. Under one roof, it preserves old furniture, the warmth of a brick stove, and numerous specialties from the grandmothers of the area. You can try your hand at traditional crafts, weaving, silk and glass painting, gold embroidery, or pottery in this quaint and unique house.
Children can play old, almost forgotten games such as sack races, horseshoe throwing, ring toss, and tug-of-war.
Hamam in Bač
In the very center of Bač, you can also visit the hamam, partially ruined but with some preserved walls and artifacts from that era. It is the only building of this type of Islamic culture in Vojvodina.
Calvary
At the end of the Bačka Fortress Street, near the canal and the city gate, is the Catholic shrine of Calvary, a pilgrimage site for believers during Easter Week. It features 14 Stations of the Cross that symbolize Christ's suffering on the way to the crucifixion.
